Broward County Fair to Have a New Location and New Look

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Returning for its 34th year, the Broward County Fair is set to run from Friday, November 20 through Sunday, Nov. 29 at a new location with a new look. It will be held at Pompano Citi Centre, at Federal Highway and Copans Road.

The Broward County Fair has never had its own facility on which to operate, so it has remained dependent on the good graces of the community to help find a home each year.

Thanks to the management of Citi Centre, the 2009 Fair will provide FREE admission, entertainment on a community stage at the mall’s center courtyard, livestock competitions and community and student exhibits complete with ribbons and cash prizes, for all fairgoers to visit and enjoy. The Fair, however, will be quite different, as there will be no carnival midway with vendors, food booths, rides, games or attractions.

“That is a great loss for some, but it will give all fair visitors time to concentrate on what are the most essential and important elements of any and all Fairs...the community's agri-business and its students,” said Fair Executive Director Ina Nadler. “Agri-business and the students of Broward County will not be forgotten.”

The student art, science and essay exhibits will be housed in two “storefronts” adjacent to Citi Centre’s central courtyard, where the entrance will be designed by one of Broward County Schools’ art classes. Horticulture students will have their projects featured on-site at the Lowe’s Garden Center. A special area set aside for student animal competitions and exhibits for the public to view will be set up during the second weekend of the Fair, off of the central courtyard beside Sears.

All contests held in previous years such as the Baby Beautiful, Miss Broward County Fair, Talent, Step Dance and Drumline competitions will be held in the Citi Centre Courtyard on the Fair’s community stage. The very popular Spelling Bee will be held in an upstairs room above LensCrafters (see attached Events Schedule for a listing of dates and times).

NEW THIS YEAR: A brand new feature of the 2009 Fair will be a “Treasure” Hunt for prizes on Saturday, November 28, at participating Citi Centre retail stores. Look for special details, a prize list and applications on-line at www.browardcountyfair.com. Also new is the NASCAR Street Tour and BP’s “Renew Your Valves Tour.”

Back by popular demand will be High School Spirit Night, Noche Latina, and Senior Day featuring health screenings and gifts with the AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour.

Fair exhibit hours are from Noon to 9 p.m. weekdays (excluding Thanksgiving) and Saturdays, and Noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. Entertainment hours vary. Please see the attached schedule.

The Broward County Fair, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to enriching the lives of local children. Since the Fair began more than three decades ago, it has contributed more than $2.5 million to education and is the premier showcase for Broward¹s vast agri-business community.
